Application Note | Power Steering Pump Assembly: Force Versus Distance Process Monitoring
A faulty pulley being incorrectly pressed onto the pump shaft resulted in faulty power steering pumps. The manufacturer required a cost-effective solution to verify that the pulley was securely pressed into the pump shaft prior to final assembly. In one case, Sciemetric’s press monitoring system was installed to find the defects before final assembly by performing various tests with each part including press force, and pulley height checks during assembly, providing detailed signatures of the press, position while storing all data for complete traceability. Application Note | Power Steering Pump Tube Press: Verification Of Tube Press Into Power Steering Pump
An automotive parts manufacturer was unable to verify that the tube insertion process was free of defects to avoid potential power steering failures in the field. A sigPOD press monitor was configured to monitor press load versus distance and successfully detects defects in-process such as too large insertion hole, loose tube and debris. sigPOD Press Datasheet
sigPOD Press is designed to monitor assembly press operations and provide real-time analysis of the data to identify defective parts, faulty press machinery, and out of control assembly processes. It measures force vs. time or force vs. distance signatures for each part cycle, and then analyzes the curve(s) in milliseconds to provide an instant pass/fail output for each press ram.

Application Note | Fuel Injector Insertion Verification Using Force Monitoring
Fuel rail defects for a leading automotive manufacturer were traced to the improper insertion of fuel injectors into the fuel rail. The recurring defects were not found until late in assembly and represented a potential warranty issue as the injectors and fuel rails would experience premature wear due to the improper insertion. This risk along with high teardown and repair costs led the manufacturer to look for an efficient, reliable and effective way to monitor the simultaneous insertion of the three fuel rail injectors into the fuel rail. Application Note | Axle Suspension Component Assembly: Press Force Verification of Bushing Assemblies
Since the part is welded to the front axle, the assembly of the front axle bushing into a stamped metal bracket is a critical process. The visual and random mechanical inspections conducted post-assembly by a manufacturer were insufficient to identify defective parts and provide 100% guarantee of the integrity of the assembly during the service life of the vehicle. Read the application note to learn how Sciemetric fixed the problem.

Application Note | Piston Connecting Rod Fracture: Force Monitoring in V8 and V10 Assembly
An engine manufacturer required a solution to successfully monitor the crank force to verify the correct range of key parameters to ensure the quality of the connection of the connecting rods joining the pistons to crankshaft was not compromised. Sciemetric’s process monitor resolved the issue by closely monitoring the crank and peak force, bushing, falling slope and area under the curve while simultaneously monitoring both the cranking process and bushing press forces with a single system with a five second machine cycle time.
